Prophesy Come True=) Show Down in Kangema!

(published on Saturday September 15 2012)

The Kangema by-election to be held on Monday is proving to be the most significant by-election to be held before Kenya’s next general election. In a way we should say that the winner of the Kangema parliamentary sit left vacant by the passing of the late powerful minister for environment John Michuki, will determine Kenya’s next president!

For the presidential aspirants, whose parties are fielding contestants in the by-election it will be a measuring of might for it will prove their popularity not just in Kangema but in Central /Mount Kenya part of the country as a whole. Straight up, the winning political party for Kangema will produce Central Kenya’s preferred president come next year.

But its three out of what is slowly becoming a mass of presidential contestants that actually will either affirm or be shamed out of the popularity contest.

Uhuru Kenyatta of the most influential party in Central, TNA is in a sense out to assert, prove (to others and to himself) that he is Central’s supremo while his main antagonist, Raila Odinga of ODM, will be looking at himself through the mirror. He (Raila) needs to see himself as Central sees him for him to realise any authority in the region. That’s Kangema, his do or die.

But while this two political forces of reckon wait for the Kangema show down, the emergence of the “former” Mungiki leader and presidential contender, Maina Njenga has created an unexpected surge of excitement.

Now the twist here, and believe it ain’t no simple matter, is that PM Raila Odinga, the self proclaimed no 1 reformer is the man holding hands with Maina Njenga. Both are playing the forces behind Mkenya solidarity movement sponsored candidate, John Githaiga.

This, many, including me, see as the PM’s biggest mistake in Central Kenya where he is in dire need of self assurance. His involvement with the former terror group leader, who still has criminal cases to answer in court, is bent to cost him dearly.

It’s most ironic that as a “reformer” who advocates for the continuation of the cases of the four Kenyan suspects including Mr Kenyatta, the DPM, at the ICC, Raila has gone into a coalition with Maina Njenga. A man who brought immeasurable misery to the people of Central Kenya and Kangema itself. A man who’s “former” terror group Mungiki is prominently mentioned in the same said cases at the Hague.

Maina Njenga on his side is boastfully dreaming of embarrassing Mr Kenyatta and forcing his authority in Central and Mt Kenya region but his fate is at the debe. Kangema will do, Central and then Kenya will follow. Showtime!
