Making A Change. A Kenyan Swede.

Making a change is part of Godliness, or so I believe and by this I mean positive change. Making a change is a call for those who listen. Those who pay attention without waiting to be pushed to and as such unbiased. Those who rise up to the occasion whatever the calling need, pertain.
The action

24th July 2012.

I have had the privilege to meet a few of such people, the exceptions of this world. The people by whose little actions make this otherwise or seemingly damned globe turn on around. The people who put smiles on the faces of strangers, or just reorganise your ordinary day to a day of celebration by their simple initiatives.

These are the people that we should look up to because their hearts and minds are committed to selfishless sacrifices and dedicated to communal, societal, I mean humanly joy. That is making a difference, making a change.

It is a sacrifice still, though such to a bearable extent. All the same it is a change you remember.

They are not your every day heroes, no, not in the Martin Luther King Jrs’ calibre, but still heroes indeed. And they are obsessed by the same spirit that so tormented Martin Luther King Jr, that he had that immortal dream. Actions that remain to live on.

I envy a policeman for the good work they set out to do knowing the risks. The ambulance personnel who wake up and array themselves to save life. A doctor who spends years learning how to lessen peoples pain, give length to life, and bring in new lives into the world.

It is said that we all have a purpose in this world, and it happens so, that we sometimes serve without thinking of it. But at least, we should acknowledge where good deeds make a change. These are the actions we should look for and encourage without reservations.

It is said, that a laugh adds a day to your life. For that we must not tune out those who make the effort to cause that laugh.

Well, we can admit that sometimes these things happen with a price tag. But then why work, is it not for that? How boring would a day as goat be to you? Think about a pig that is fed and sheltered but still cannot keep its stay. Or a worker ant that never gets to build super highways. A horse that knows that all its life it has to do what it’s master says even though it might have greater ideas.

There is the dog that leads it master who can not see. At least we get to choose. Those who choose to serve us, and by whatever capacity they so do, are our days’ heroes, unlike the poor choiceless animal.

The Kenyan community in Sweden is cooled down, that happens around summer times. In fact I did not update you because I was too busy taking it all in and save enough for the coming dark and cold seasons. But the others were busy, making your sunny (mostly rainy) day enjoyable.

SugarRay Napunyi, the Jah’neral
One such group of people did like Joshua and ordered the sun to shine, well, not really Joshua style, but the sun did shine on a day when its shine could only be hoped for.

SugarRay Napunyi, the Jah’neral. The General in the aspirant, even sentimentally, group Jahmbo Afreeka. See the difference? Already. The Jah’neral has plans for you and most of which is about having a good time. And all you should do is listen to your General; it’s when you remember that good laugh or just the smile, that you must say YES Sir! Or just chant Yesaya!

JahmboAfreeka is a combat-ready (entertainingly) group by originally Kenyans, for Kenyans, Africans and friends of the said. The group has, enough respect!,. none other than Albert Taabu, the born and natured genius drummer as its seasoned  Field Marshal. Taabu has a passion, a dedication to drum up kids and teaches them a few rhythms and dance moves before they leave his field totally exhausted from minutes of fully enjoyed and fun filled African drumming and dancing.

Albert has been active in organising Kenyan events for sometime. His baby child is indeed (he is a father of three well tuned children though), the “back to school” event heartily so created for Kenyan kids going back to school after the summer season, and which is organised and executed by Jahmbo Afreeka.

Needless to repeat, Albert’s commitment to putting a smile on those kids’ faces, or creating that uncontrollable innocent laughter on them, is his high.
The Dancing

Now, enjoin him with the selflessly ambitious Jah’neral and a group of oil anointed talents, and Jahmbo Afreeka is what you talking about. DatyNatz will twang a guitar to your total spellbind. Of course, he is, not that he happens to be, he is the younger bro to Napunyi!

The Mother, Roy and Napunyi
Am not done yet. Nancy Wandaka, the Pandora Box (positively so for releasing them to this world), is the mother. And adding to that, she fed us the African way. We were motherly Africanized and that is another story all together.

DatyNatz is the soul of the group Africa Unitez! Based in Sweden and tantalizingly promising in what they do and have already featured right here at The Brief (KenyanSwede). (Africa Unitez)

Roy the same Daty Natz
The Gramps Morgan (of the reggae royal family Morgan Heritage) look a like, (almost) to the voice, shy, gently but immensely (multi actually, coz clubs drums like they stole something!) talented lead guitar player takes his place with cool. This guy, who drives Swedish gals gigglingly crazy, is the most relaxed (and to the gals disarmingly so) of the group. And he oozes confidence.

Gijo
There is Albay’s bro…George aka Gijo the “magic drum fingers”. And the dj Jack who never leaves the technical field unless the order is in consultation with the Field Marshal and the troop of happiness-distributing heroes.

There is Enrico the calculative ever smiling smooth sailor gentleman. Enrico’s passion in the percussions is obvious in your presence and that you must experience and see if you won’t get blessed.

In short, the group is richly composed of talented faithfuls born knowing that change is made. And that they do with a smile and an occasional laugh. They are standing ready to take on the Stockholm Kenyan entertainment podium and that with the African Kenyan touch.

Their name says a lot, hello Africa! Give it up for Jahmbo Afreekaaa!!

Thanks for a happy “Back To School” day. As Long as you will, YOU make a difference. A Change. P Bryan Njoroge.
